This kind of shit drives me nuts.

I found this 88 300zx on CL asking for "reasonable offers" and says they're open to trades. then says "Remember car nada value is 11,300".

Okay this is a "decent" looking, beige on beige, NON turbo 300zx. It's worth maybe 3,000-4,000 on a really good day. I've seen clean Turbos go for 5,000-6,500.

But this A.hole went on NADA and grabbed the High Retail value for his tan has been sports car, and thinks that ACTUALLY what it's worth. That High retail was probly set by some 20,000 mile car that somebody's gandma bought brand new. The low RETAIL on this cars NADA 'collector' car value is just over 3k. Okay I think I've ranted enough. Thanks Oppo community for giving me a place to rant about stupid CL posts at 2 in the morning.

Nope, NADA got me $7,000 from insurance for my '07 zx3 when it got totaled. That was several grand more than what KBB value was. So it has its uses, but none of the value books are close to reality, NADA is only good when dealing with banks and insurance.

That is much more reasonable. And prettier.

Yeah I guess in some cases it benefits you.

I just hate how out of touch it can be with estimating the value of cars for sale. Sometimes it's way too high and sometimes it's way too low.

That's why you check all the value books and essentially average them out. The cars that I've looked up because I was interested in buying I've checked all the values and I've found NADA to be the most, should we call it generous, in the value it places on vehicles. You can generally look at the NADA value and say "Nope, not going to pay you that dude" To a seller. Then when it comes time for an insurance pay out it turns into "pay me this price MOTHER FUCKERS!"

One car that varies widely from book values is the Miata, basically they are worth what ever the market will support. Book values are never accurate, and almost all the time the insurance companies will try to use it against you. The only time NADA holds real water is when you are contending with dealer pricing. They use that shit like it is the holy gospel and that is their bottom line price that they will let the car go. (that is a broad generalization that is true 100% of the time at the dealerships off harbor in GG/Westminister area and the like. . .)

Sorry I missed this one.

The Miata issue you brought up is the issue that I don't like. Any highly sought after enthusiast loved car is worth whatever the market will support. NADA doesn't seem to take that into account.

None of the books do. Not even the collectors books can appropriately value a desirable car. They just serve as a ballpark range to get some sort of idea as to what the car is worth to the insurance company/bank.

We should start the Oppo Book!

They can pay us to price out the value of Miatas, E46 M3s, and custom brown diesel Miata wagons
